As one of three finalists in the international BetterBin Design Competition, IONDESIGN designs a litter bin for New York City, focusing on the users: the intuitive and efficient litter bin serves both the city's sanitation staff and passers-by. The structure of the litter bin is extremely resistant to external damage and vandalism: the robust litter bin consists of a filigree, self-stabilizing, flexible network structure that appears light and elegant. It is resistant to damage, rust and misuse. The innovative interwoven structure offers stability while remaining flexible. In this way, the waste basket bounces back when it is hit firmly against the edge of the garbage truck. This eliminates the problem of the denting of the former bin. The diamond structure of IONDESIGN's bin resists high gusts of wind due to the small area of attack. The ergonomically shaped grip rings on the top and bottom make it easier for the workers to pull, lift and empty the container. Thanks to the circular shape and minimal contact with the ground, the container can be easily pulled and rolled. The rings are shaped as handles that can be used from any side.
